Abstract
Recently, scientific research involving human societies has embraced emerging and innovative technology. This paper combines emerging ideas encompassing Public Participation Geographical Information Systems (PPGIS) with Web 2.0 software developments through the development of a website platform to advertise and discuss the issue of city image in Macau. This project aims to evaluate the feasibility of a PPGIS’s ability to reform the image of city. According to website statistics, users from around the world accessed the website with the majority of hits coming from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, China and Malaysia. Survey analysis showed that most participates believe a PPGIS website can help improve the image of Macau. Users of the platform commented that having the public participate encouraged a new view of the city, thus proving its effectiveness. This study has come to the conclusion that it is possible to reform the image of a city using a web-based PPGIS tool.
