Abstract
The irrigation water is distributed through canal network systems. An effective
management of these distribution networks will improve the efficiencies of irrigation
water uses. This research is to develop an effective network framework for canal
system from a GIS perspective. The canal network of ChiaNan irrigation association
will be used as a demonstration site. The techniques of Dynamic Segmentation will be
also used for management of sectional data such as design, construction, and
maintenance records. The developed system should meet the need for irrigation
management such as irrigation scheduling, and periodical maintenance arrangement,
etc. Since the river systems have the same characteristics of the canal network. What
will be found in this research can be easily transplant to the implementation of the
river network GIS.
