Abstract
Chushui river is located on the south
part of Shenmu village. This river is one of
the branch of Chenyulan river and Hosir river,
and is also one of the catchment on the
Alishan mountain. In 31th July 1996, Herb
Typhoon dropped a large quantity of rain and
produced a debris flow from the upper part to
the lower part of the Chushui river. The
Chushui river was enlarged in width from 5
meters in origin to 40 meters finally. Most of
the geomaterial in this debris flow were came
from the both side of rock cliff.
The rock type in this area mainly consist
of Hersir formation of Miocene in western
hill of Taiwan. It is included dark-grayish
sandstone and shale, and medium to thin
layer silty sand. Some of the drag folds and
faults distributed on the study area and the
rock characteristics is normally fracture.
The discontinuitiues developed very
well specially on the originated part on the
both side of gully. The colluvium randomly
deposited on the lower parts of gully. The
middle of the thickness is around 2 to 10
meters. These unconsolidated deposited
geomaterial is the mainly source for
providing the debris flow.
This research project will be approached
on the 3 years time. The mainly point of this project is to understand the geological
characteristics in originated section. The first
years, the geological condition and
geomorphological features should be
investigated and find out the distribution of
sediments in the gully. The second year,
outcrop, discontinuitiues, and hazards area
will be comprehended. The final year, all
information will be combined together and
estimated its real mechanism of geohazard in
originated section.
