Abstract
Abstract Nowadays, the amount of CO2 in the air has increased significantly since the industrial revolution all over the world, included Viet Nam. The one of the reason makes the increasing of CO2 in the air is the energy consumption from the building, especially the energy needed for cooling and heating of the building. Green Roofs and Cool Roofs can save energy, reduce neighborhood temperatures, and protect human health. They have a strong regulating effect on the temperature of underlying roof surfaces and building interiors, reducing the energy needed for building cooling and the effects of the urban heat island effect. By using the Designbuilder software, this research wants to make a specific calculation in energy saving by comparing energy consumption of Green Roofs and Cool Roofs to Conventional Roofs. The research use real data from case study included dimension, construction, material, location… as well as real climate data of location for all simulation. Furthermore, researcher also wants to know how different climate zones affect the energy consumption performance of different types of Roof System by comparison energy consumption of case study in different locations of Tropical, Sub-tropical Climate Zone and Cold Climate Zone. Moreover, researcher wants to show the differences in energy consumption between low-rise buildings and high-rise buildings when applying each type of Roof included Cool Roofs, Green Roofs and Conventional Roofs. The results show the change in energy saving effect of Green Roofs and Cool Roofs in comparison with Conventional Roofs. By using the dissertation’s results, designers can reduce the time required for calculations and improve the efficiency of their design. Investment cost has been analyzed based on Vietnam case study building. However, this research does not give conclusions or suggestion for the economic efficiency of investment. The cost analyzing work serves for references and for further study’s purposes.
