Abstract
This work focuses on PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) face mask with closed microchannels that can capture and separate microparticles. Inside the microchannel, special structures called cilia walls makes the low Reynolds number flow in wavy motion and attract particles. This microchannel can separate the bigger (20μm) and smaller (5μm) particles effectively from an aerosol. Numerical simulations are done on different sizes of microchannel using Finite element software to estimate the percentage of separation of microparticles. Results revealed it can filter 70% of 5μm i.e. small particles compared to other face masks. The pressure difference reduced to 49.4% compared to the N95 mask.
