Abstract
Experimental and theoretical analyses were conducted to investigate the effects of interfacial behavior on the nucleate boiling heat transfer of ethanol-water, methanol-water, methanol-n-pentane, ethanol-n-pentane and methanol-ethanol binary mixtures. It is demonstrated that binary mixture vapor-liquid interfacial behavior greatly influences boiling dynamics, such as bubble detachment, flow or heat transfer in microlayer, and stability of microlayer. The associated nucleate boiling heat transfer of binary mixtures will, thus, be significantly altered by Marangoni effect caused by surface tension gradient. The experimental results would not correlate with theoretical results if the Marangoni effects at interface had not been considered. © 2001 Éditions scientifiques et médicales Elsevier SAS.
