Abstract
For a long time, engineers are proficient in designing trench to treat the rainfall and
runoff problem, but the design of groundwater drainage instrument is always ignored.
This study focus on how to quickly eliminate the ponding on playground, park, or sport
ground resulted from storms.
Traditionally, bigger pipes (ex. 16 inch pipe) are used to collect the infiltration
1
water, but the efficiency does not linearly increase with the pipe radius. Moreover, using
bigger pipes cost more and the accompanied abandoned soil can easily cause
environmental pollution. However, using smaller pipes can expend less, but also
decrease the speed of collecting infiltration water.
To improve the groundwater drainage instrument, this study designs a new high
speed drainage instrument, using smaller pipes with two sides of wing-shaped net plate.
The wing-shaped net plate is designed to quickly collect infiltration water and then
conduct it to the pipes. This kind of instrument can decrease the construction expense
and also collect and drain infiltration water efficiently.
This research will study the different drainage efficiency and economic benefit
between tradition bigger pipes and the new instrument proposed in this study by using
numerical modeling and in-situ tests. The result may be useful to future design of groundwater drainage instrument in large naked area..
