Abstract
A polarization splitter with zinc-and-nickle-codiffused optical waveguide and gallium-diffused optical waveguide is successfully fabricated. The basic structure of the proposed splitter is an asymmetrical y-branch. Both the TE- and TM-wave are guided in the input arm; near the branching region, the TE-wave is kept in the straight arm, whereas the TM-wave is directed to the bent arm.n this work, only one diffusion step is needed, instead of two in previous works, which greatly simplifies the fabrication process. The measured extinction ratios are 30dB and 23dB for the TE and TM waves, which are great than and about the same as those reported, respectively.
