Abstract
The phenomena of industrial clustering and strategic alliance forming are common in the development of global biopharmaceutical industry. These are also two important factors that affect firms’ competitiveness. For these reasons, this study investigates both the situations of industrial cluster and strategic alliance of biopharmaceutical industry in Taiwan, and provides evidence of the relationship between these two factors and financial performance. The subjects of this study are limited to public firms in Taiwan.
In this study, we consider the effect of these two factors, and of their differences in scale on financial performances. The effect of the industrial cluster located in science park, the number of strategic alliance partners abroad are significantly positively related to current financial performances. However, whether the firms are inside the cluster (strategic alliance), size of the cluster (strategic allianc), and the strategic alliance inside or outside cluster are not significantly related to current financial performances.
