Abstract
This paper presents a novel waveguide-to-microstrip transition with an embedded 1:4 power divider for millimeter-wave antenna array applications. The proposed transition design consists of a machined spacer and a coupling patch printed on a single layer PCB substrate. Additionally, a 1:4 power divider is embedded in the coupling patch design, making the total transition area very compact. The power divider incorporates differential ports that eliminate the extra delay line and facilitate the symmetry of the feeding layout about the center of a 2D antenna array structure. The center-feeding scheme is desirable for a large antenna array as it enhances the mechanical robustness and reduces the feeding line loss simultaneously. The resultant transmission loss of the proposed transition is only 0.8 dB at 24GHz.
