Abstract
Abstract This thesis presents a novel EBG-backed circularly polarized corner- truncated -square aperture antenna, the structure of the antenna has three layers. The basic concept of design is using a microstrip line fed probe on the first layer to excite a square corner -truncated aperture on second layer , and mushroom EBG cells are used as backed-cover inside the aperture, the purpose of putting EBG cells is letting antenna become to uni-directional radiation . It is useful for applications of communicating connection. In this thesis, the proposed EBG-backed circularly polarized corner- truncated square aperture antenna is designed at X-band frequency , and we use FR4 substrate to implement our design . The antenna’s shape is a square whose edge is 30 mm . From the measurement results we know the return loss bandwidth is 9% and the 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is about 8%, and the gain level is around 3~4 dBic .Furthermore ,we design a sequential-rotation -fed 2X2 antenna array and the array ‘s shape is a square whose edge is 52 mm ,The return loss bandwidth is 27% ; The 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is about 14% ; The gain level is around 8~10 dBic . The purpose of enhancing gain level and bandwidth are achieved. The results of simulation consist with measurements’ and this improve that it is a feasible way for implemented antenna in the thesis.
