Abstract
This chapter reviews viruses that are generally outside of routine swine health concerns because of their limited or uncertain clinical significance. These include both DNA (adenoviruses, anelloviruses) and RNA (bunyaviruses, hepatitis E virus (HEV), retroviruses, togaviruses, toroviruses) viruses, some of which are zoonotic (e.g. eastern equine encephalitis virus, Getah virus, and HEV), and some of which are of concern for xenotransplantation involving xenografts of pig origin (e.g. porcine endogenous retroviruses). Swine health specialists should be aware of these agents because most are common in swine populations and may be encountered in the course of intensive diagnostic investigation (e.g. deep sequencing). Although these agents do not typically pose a significant health threat to domestic swine, it would be prudent to maintain our awareness of their presence and their potential to cause disease in swine and humans.
