Abstract
A previously derived stochastic representation is generalized for the case when the relative magnitude of the number of active sites and that of cells is arbitrary. The resultant master equation describing the transient behavior of the system is nonlinear with respect to the random variable representing the number of adhered cells. Direct solving of the master equation is not straightforward; however, the mean and fluctuating characteristics of the phenomenon can be obtained by resorting to a systematic approach. © 1987 Academic Press Limited All rights reserved.
