Abstract
Formosun solar car team of Department of mechanical engineering of National Taiwan University began to design and build the third generation solar car “Formosun Ⅲ”at 2004 for participating World Solar Challenge in Australia at 2005. The energy produced from solar modules is the key of the place in the solar race. Formosun Ⅲ utilized GaAs solar modules to increase solar energy.
This thesis establishes a processes of design the photovoltaics system and procedures of designing and encapsulation the GaAs solar modules, which refers to the experience of design silicon solar modules in the past. In the producing process, this thesis solves the problems of welding GaAs solar cells and bypass diodes, and develops the techniques of overlapping solar cells. The success of producing GaAs solar modules makes Formosun Ⅲ obtain the fifth place of World Solar Challenge at 2005.
