Abstract
Understanding the propagation properties of electromagnetic waves in a corridor will help the implementation of indoor wireless centrex systems and indoor personal communications services (PCS) systems. Different layered structures and materials of the walls (including floor and ceiling) significantly affect the wave propagation properties in a corridor. Many measurements show that the received power may change abruptly due to the interference of waves with each wave going through multiple reflections from the walls. A geometrical ray tracing approach is presented to study the wave propagation characteristics and to calculate the received power in a corridor. This model takes into account the layered structures of the walls. The approach is verified by comparing the results with two canonical examples where closed form solutions exist.>
