Abstract
To meet the requirements of wireless broadband access, IEEE 802.16e for wireless metropolitan network supporting mobility has been standardized in 2006. Since power
consumption is a critical issue for wireless mobile networks, IEEE 802.16e defines the power saving mechanism for more efficient energy usage. However, the power saving
mechanism of IEEE 802.16e cannot achieve expected energy efficiency for the mobile station with multiple connections. To solve this problem, we propose an adaptive power saving mechanism to increase the energy efficiency for IEEE 802.16e mobile station with multiple connections. A simple but accuracy system model is also presented for
validating our simulations. The simulation result shows that the proposed mechanism achieves higher energy efficiency without sacrificing the throughput. With the proposed scheme, the high energy-efficient communication is obtained in IEEE 802.16e networks.
