Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish the technique of semen
electroejaculation from Formosan black bear and Asian black bear and to provide the
information on semen characteristics for further study in animal breeding. The study
revealed that removal of urine from the bladder before electroejaculation minimizes
contamination with urine and the normal semen characteristics were milky white in
color, about 0.3 ml per ejaculation; pH 7.6; sperm concentration 1.4×108 cells/ml; live
of sperm 50%; abnormal morphology 17%; total length of sperm 67.5μm, head 5μ
m, midpiece 3.75μm, and tail 58.75μm. The present study was not successful in
frozen storage of the semen.
