Abstract
This paper presents a fault location technique for three-end multi-section AC hybrid transmission lines using synchronized phasor data obtained from phasor measurement units (PMUs) with GPS technique or digital-relay data with off-line synchronized approaches. The technique is based on a two-end fault location algorithm to propose a new approach for three-end multi-section hybrid lines that consist of different line-parameter sections, such as underground cables in conjunction with overhead lines. The current study shows dedication to development of an exclusively intelligent computation on faulted-branch selection /fault location for three-end multi-section lines. The technique yields a precise result for external/internal fault identification as well as fault location estimation on an overhead line or an underground cable. The calculating burden can be avoided since neither fault type selections nor iterative operations are required. A quantity of simulations has been conducted to show the advantage of the proposed idea.
