A new Doppler sonographic technique, referred to as power Doppler US, is 3 to 5 times more sensitive than conventional Doppler. In particular, an additional color gain of 10-15 dB can be achieved in the power mode without overwhelming noise. With the advantage of relative angle and velocity independence, extended dynamic range and higher sensitivity, power Doppler US has been found useful in tumor flow mapping. With computer reconstruction, three-dimensional (3-D) power Doppler is also possible.
