Abstract
The study proposes to examine the factors
that may account for the countries in Latin
America to recognize either Taipei or Beijing
over the years.
As far as Latin American countries are
concerned, recognition issue can be analyzed
from three perspectives: international, national
and by-coastal relationship. Five factors will
contribute to assessing the triangular ties. They
are:
(1) the evolution of Taipei’s and Beijing’s
diplomatic relations with Latin
American countries;
(2) the frequency of high-level officials
from Taipei or Beijing visiting Latin
American countries;
(3) Taipei’s and Beijing’s trade relations
with Latin American countries;
(4) the degree of political stability of a
Latin American country;
(5) the degree of economic development
of a Latin American country;
All information related to the study is
derived from official material and document.
All in all, the importance of the research lies in
the fact that it provides further information for
Taipei to improve its diplomatic strategies in
the region.
