Abstract
The methods for estimate the seismic response of components attached to buildings have been proposed during the last three decades. The important components such as the reverberatory in nuclear power plants and the medical instruments in hospitals maybe more expensive than the primary structure.he important components will make a great economical impact if it is broken by earthquake. The resonance and non-classical damping between sub-systems must be taken into account in the structural analysis of composite system. The approximate formula of this paper was proposed to compute the maximum response of equipments under the resonant and non-classical damped situation.ts application to any given nonstructural component only requires knowing the geometric characteristics, and weights of the nonstructural component and the structure to which it is connected, in addition to the fundamental natural period of the structure and the elastic response spectrum specified for the design of the structure. So it is a simplify method to estimate the seismic response of nonstructural components in buildings. inally, presented also are a numerical example in Taiwan that illustrates the application of the method and the results of a comparative numerical study that is carried out to assess the method’s adequacy.
