Abstract
The occurrence of the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) for 10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline is reported. The tautomer emission was observed with a maximum at 609 nm and a yield of ≈ 2.0 × 10-2 in methylcyclohexane at room temperature. The ESIPT reaction is free from solvent perturbation. The extreme photostability and unusually large Stokes shifted emission make this a potential candidate for application in radiation-hard scintillators. © 1992.
