Abstract
3GPP 23.246 defines the Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service (MBMS) standard to efficiently deliver multimedia multicasting content over the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). In MBMS, the network may turn on the common logical channel to serve multiple MBMS users at the same time. However, the usage of the common logical channel may cause high interference to the dedicated control channel (that are used to serve the traditional calls). To more efficiently utilize the radio resource to serve both traditional calls and MBMS calls, in this thesis, we propose two channel allocation algorithm: Reserved Resource for Multicasting (RRM) and Unreserved Resource for Multicasting (URM). Two simulation models are conducted to investigate the performances of the RRM and URM algorithms.
