Abstract
Treatment of 1,4-bis{[dimethyl(i-propoxy)silyl]vinyl}benzene (3) with water in the presence of base results in the formation of a siloxane tethered paradivnylbenzene cyclophane 2. The structure of 2 was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. UV and fluorescence spectra were measured and interaction between chromophores may occur. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
