Abstract
Second only to the Semiconductor Foundry industry, the IC design houses in Taiwan have become the most growing and competitive. IC design house is a skill-intensive industry, and its product characteristic deeply affects the industry’s chain structure. Therefore, this research is dedicated to find the common traits and specialty associated with IC design firms with excellent production efficiency. An attempt is also made to suggest design houses, on how to utilize the resources of the enterprise to facilitate their overall revenue.ata Envelopment Efficiency (DEA), a statistical analysis method is used in this thesis to estimate the performance of those IC design houses which are listed in Taiwan stock market. The performance of IC design houses is estimated by calculating their operational efficiency. Mathematical programming approach is used to access relative efficiency within a group of Decision Making Units (DMU) and to find all the possible envelopment curves. Using observation data, production efficiency frontier is designed. The data is also used to analyze the various efficiencies, sensitivity and reference resource counts.he results are categorically divided based on three different efficiency indicators. First, the companies that are totally efficient and they are MTK, NOVATEK, AAT and PHISON. The technically efficient companies are MTK, NOVATEK, AAT, Macroblock, ENE and PHISON. The third and the last category is that of companies with high scale efficiency and they are MTK, NOVATEK, AAT, PHISON. The research is basically done with the motive to increase the revenue of Taiwan semiconductor industry through improving IC design house efficiency as well as the management of that to operate in coordination with the agglomeration and clustering effects, as a result, to contribute a great deal in the semiconductor industry in Taiwan.
