Abstract
The solenoidal guide field of Raman free electron lasers can be tuned to resonantly enhance a desired harmonic component of the electron quiver velocity. The feasibility of a harmonic FEL based on this effect is investigated. Computer simulations demonstrate that the gain and efficiency of the second harmonic generation can be comparable to that of the fundamental generation. © 1993.
