Abstract
Non-identical parallel machine systems
are also very common in semiconductor
industries. These systems are neither single
machines nor whole factories. In addition,
they are usually organized into supply chains
of some sort, thus creating unique production
problems which to date still defy complete
solution. The goal of this project is to study
capacity planning, machine assignment, and
master production planning problems of this
type of system, and to develop solution
methodology. The thrusts of this research
are: (1) to study fundamental decision
problems, and (2) to develop a prototype
software system platform to validate decision
methodologies and decision process. The
expected results of this research will include
master production scheduling methods, and
product mix planning, machine assignment
methods, tool backup planning.
