Investigation on the Emulsification Stability of Water-in-Oil Emulsions and the Combustion Characteristics of their Droplets

Abstract
In this study, we add emulsions to diesel and water and make them mix together (diesel with 1% span80, water with 1% tween80). We use ourselves designing air piston cylinder device and varies dimension filters to mix different percentages water-in-oil emulsions.
We store the water-in-oil emulsions in room temperature for several days and investigate their integration by the microscope; then using Ink-Jet printing method to generate the droplets in the high temperature environment. Wu study the Emulsification Stability and the combustion characteristics of the droplets: ignition delay, burning rate, micro-explosion and so on. For one month storage, the combustion characteristics of the water-in-oil emulsions below 15 % water fraction are not obviously changed but those above 20% water fraction are changed, their ignition delay are a little shortened and burning time are increased. Besides, only water-in-oil emulsions above 20% water fraction can explode completely.
