Abstract
Soil water management systems were developed to mitigate arsenic levels in rice. Pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of water management systems on reducing As dissolution from three As-contaminated soils. The ratio of As/Fe in the soil pore water revealed the liability of soil As and Fe. The conventional treatment significantly reduced dissolution of As and Fe in the soil pore water under paddy (Gd-pd) and upland (Gd-up) soils, but no significant effects in alluvial soil (Er) were observed, due to well drainage and soil active Fe content. Water saturated treatment mitigated As dissolution from both Er and Gd soils and accumulation on the iron plaque of rice root.
