Abstract
In the present study, we develop a finite
volume code to numerically calculate the
shallow water model. We perform a series of
calculations on the related flow fields of a
typhoon-like vortex encountering a
bell-shape mountain. The axisymmetrization
dynamics of the vortices encountering the
mountain is revealed by the interaction
between the primary vortex and the
associated secondary vortices. Further
investigations of the topographic effect and
the steering flow effect are performed by
changing the orienting of topography as well
as the geometric shape and size of the
topography. Finally, a dynamic model for
tracking the vortex over topography is also
presented for comparing the results from the
SWM calculations.
