Abstract
A dynamic analysis of the transverse vibration of a clamped-free pretwisted spinning beam having non-circular but axisymmetric cross-section is presented. The assumed-modes approximate method has been used in this study. The influences of the spinning speed, pretwisted angle, area moments of inertia, axial compressive load and elastic constraints have all been investigated. It is found that the unstable spinning speed region can be decreased by increasing the moments of inertia, pretwisted angle or elastic constraints, while the axial compressive load and spinning speed make the beam system become weaker. © 1991.
