Abstract
High Speed Machining (HSM) is the process that has three charac- teristics: high spindle speed, shallow depth of cut and high speed feed- rate. The related technical development to be integrated requires both the software and hardware applied in manufacturing environments. However, in some cases when HSM equipments are introduced, the proprietors still neglect the important role of the software and the necessity to modify the process planning, and the powerful equipment is operated in more or less the traditional manner.
The thesis focuses on the introduction of the 3-axis HSM functions appearing in commercial Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) packages. Practicabilities of the HSM functions are observed through the software simulation. Experiments are also devised to study the influence of key parameters on the cutting process.
