Abstract
Abstract
Temporomandibular joint is an important joint which is responsible for mouse motion. And it is also resposible for eating and speaking. But seldom people take care about the joint so that more and more arthritis cases occurred in this joint. In this research, we cooperated with National Taiwan University Hospital. They provided TMJ patients and many valuable knowledge for us in order to construct an expert system for TMJ diagnosis by sound signals.
We adopted autoregressive model and adaptive segmentation to analysis these signals. And we focus our research on finding the difference between TMJ arthritis patients and normal ones. And we totally got 28 left side TMJ arthritis cases, 38 right side TMJ arthritis cases, and 26 normal cases. All the cases are classified by experienced doctors. We also used the one-way anova analysis to test all the characteristic values we used.
Although we can’t distinguish TMJ arthritis patients and normal ones by time domain signals, we could find some useful variables by signal processing technologies. Variable like average intraclass distance performs very well on distinguishing patients and normal cases. It may attribute to different routes the joint disc pass by. Average intraclass distance of a TMJ arthritis patient is much smaller than a normal one.
