Abstract
One of the most challenging issues of coming energy and material scarce society involves creating a new transportation system which satisfies the essential need of human transit: door-to-door portable transportation. In order to fulfill that goal in a super-efficient way, there is a need to provide a total solution which should contain new society scenario, new service design, new business model, and new vehicle.
The vehicle adopted in the innovative transportation system is a portable lightweight electric vehicle, or PLEV, which is a two-wheel, lightweight foldable motorbike designed to be rode between the place where you are and the mass transportation system. Onboard the mass transportation system, the PLEV would be folded easily and carried as a bag or towed as a small suitcase.
In order to develop the super lightweight PLEV, both the structure design is vital. The destination of this research is to design a lightweight vehicle under 10Kg and could be folded/expanded conveniently.
A prototype PLEV was constructed on the basis of the final design. The weight and the stiffness of the vehicle were measured.
