Abstract
Mechanistic information of Cu(II) sorption onto γ-Al2O3 was investigated using triple layer model (TLM) and the pressure-jump technique. The mechanism of Cu(II) sorption was interpreted as the reaction of Cu2+ with deprotonated surface hydroxyl group on γ-Al2O3. The formation constant of Cu2+ with deprotonated reacting site determined from kinetic results (log Kint = 9.71 L mole-1) was observed here to be in excellent agreement with that simulated from TLM and sorption data (log Kint = 9.59 L mole-1) quantitatively, verifying the proposed reaction mechanism. © 1993.
