Abstract
The Chinese automobile industry currently holds sufficient potential to portray the role of the undoubted Mecca of the automobile industry while being anticipated to present itself on a worldwide level in 2010 through repetitive quick growth based on the huge domestic market. Also, in the Korean automobile industry, the strategic meaning that the Chinese market implies is substantively large; thus, it would be necessary to outgrow the limitations of the domestic market by pursuing industrial collaboration with China and to preoccupy the Chinese market with tremendous growth potential. All the more, in order for the Korean automobile industry to broaden its stance in the Northeast Asian automobile market, in which there is a danger of restructuring driven by the USA, Europe, and Japan, the construction of a collaborative system with China should be supported by all means. However, the Korean automobile industry has relatively fewer collaborative resources than advanced countries including the USA, Europe, and Japan, and the pursuit of industrial collaboration with China can never be promising. Nevertheless, it would be sufficient for the Korean automobile industry to draw attention from China through many experiences and knowledge that have enabled the Korean automobile industry to expand fundamentals for independent growth without yielding to the threat of competition from advanced countries in the past. However, with a view to creating the outcome in the pursuit of win-win collaboration of the Korean and Chinese automobile industries, it would be first and foremost to establish concrete plans and strategies in order to combine the assets of industrial collaboration of both countries in harmony and to pursue systematic industrial collaboration. This study compared gaps in competitiveness between the Korean and the Chinese automobile industries and examined the current collaborative conditions of the automobile industry in Korea and China. Furthermore, the study attempted to be committed to enhancing the effectiveness of the pursuit of collaboration in the automobile industry of the two countries in the future by withdrawing the field available for collaboration between the governments and industries of these two countries and proposing detailed collaborative plans through a SWOT analysis of the Korean and Chinese automobile industries.
