Abstract
The tool portfolio of a plant refers to the
makeup, in quantity and type, of processing
machines in the plant. Portfolio planning is a
multi-criteria decision-making task involving
trade-offs among investment cost, throughput,
cycle time and risk. This project proposes to
address all aspects of tool portfolio and product
mix planning problems in semiconductor
manufacturing. There are three major tasks: (1)
capacity modeling at the equipment and
factory levels, (2) tool portfolio design, and (3)
resource assignment and product mix planning.
In the first year, we have developed capacity
models for wafer fabs, an integrated planning
procedure, and a decision model for optimal
configuration of portfolio. Using these models
and procedure, we have developed an
optimization framework and solution
procedure for portfolio planning.
