Abstract
This thesis consists of two parts—contents of the play, and its explanation and analysis.
Qian-Zuan is a modern play in four acts and six scenes. It portrays a long history of the Wang family holding a ritual called “Qian-Zuan” for a dead elder in a south country of Taiwan, then its how to influence the whole family. In this play, through the view of a person who be just like a peeper from another place, the audiences discover many secrets of the family and the affectional relationship between characters. By the plot of play-within-a-play, their viewpoints of “Home” and “Forgiveness” are revealed. After the purification of the ritual, characters make different choices which make their life different.
The part of creative explanation and analysis expresses my thoughts on the play, including its creative originality, analysis of the plot, analysis of the characters, literature review, in attempt to review the whole process of my writing.
