Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to report new empirical evidences on the innovating firms'' R&D behaviors in Taiwan. We try to explore heterogeneities in the determinants of innovating firms’ decisions to engage in R&D cooperation. And to explore heterogeneities in the determinants of cooperating firms'' decisions to engage between four types of cooperation partners : vertical cooperation, horizontal cooperation, institutional cooperation and mixed cooperation.e use data on innovating firms drawn from the Taiwan Technological Innovation Survey 1(TTIS-1) which is jointly collected by the National Science Council and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In the empirical studies, we use Multinomial Logit Model and Nested Logit Model. The most important finding of our empirical study is the sources of incoming spillovers will significantly affect cooperating firms'' decision between different cooperation partners, which means the R&D cooperation of a type is more likely if the information coming from the potential partners is more important. Besides, from our emipircal study we also find the effect of Size is positive and significant on the R&D cooperation both in the Manufacture Industries and Service Industries. The effect of Internal Knowledge Flow is negative and significant on the R&D cooperation both in the Manufacture Industries and Service Industries. The effect of R&D subsidy on the R&D cooperation is positive both in the Manufacture Industries and Service Industries but only significant in the Manufacture Industries.
