Abstract
This work presents a power-efficient routing (PER) mechanism to identify a minimum-power path for the Opportunity Driven Multiple Access (ODMA) communication in UMTS system. Prior to the route discovery, the PER mechanism utilizes an analytical solution to predict the total power and number of intermediate UEs required in the minimum-power path. With the prediction, the PER mechanism provides a method to set the transmission power and maximum hopcount such that the power consumption of each UE during the route discovery is significantly reduced. Simulation results demonstrate the accuracy of the prediction and the required signaling of PER is dramatically reduced compared to dynamic source routing (DSR). © 2005 IEEE.
