Abstract
In this research, we focus on the
characteristics of suspended sediment of the
study area and the influences of Typhoons at
upstream area of Lan-yan chi drainage catchment.
The data applied is between 1975 and 1996.
The correlation of the total suspended
sediment yields are based on the specific
relationship between discharge and sediment at
the gauging station. The regression model of
rating curve is Qs =1.508(Q)2.0798 and the
coefficient of determination(R2)is 0.5286。The
water discharge against suspended sediment
shows the relationship between these two
variables is transport limited.
During the periods of observations (1975-
1996), 90% of the water discharge are lower than
30cms which transport 19.69% of the total
suspended sediment yields. The others transport
80.31%. Consequently, the events of low
frequency and large magnitude are the dominant
transport process of suspended sediment. Daily
discharge of 20cms is the effective discharge
between 1975-1996.
6.47% of the total period is affected by
Typhoons and 59% of the total suspended
sediment are removed by Typhoons. The impacts
of Typhoons are dynamic every year. The
magnitude of rainfall is the main factor. The result
show that Typhoons are the main process in
removing suspended sediment from the upper
catchment of Lan-yan Chi.
