Abstract
A real-time kernel is an essential component for embedded systems. This research designs a real-time operating system for the realization of home monitoring and controlling via power lines or infrared media. We also design a unified medium access control (MAC) protocol so that it will be easy for swapping and including different hardware transceivers, such as Bluetooth. The designed platform is low cost, low power, flexible, and easy for construction and maintenance. © 2006 IEEE.
