Abstract
Lean Production and Six Sigma are two quality improvement initiatives which have been widely discussed and applied in practice. The integration of these two initiatives is called Lean Six Sigma, and could take the advantage of both, that is, Six Sigma helps to eliminate defects, and Lean Production could shorten the flow period. Nowadays, using Six Sigma as the basic methodology for improvement has been generally applied in the manufacturing and service industries. In Taiwan, after the 921 earthquake and other huge disasters, the attention of the quality of construction had been awakened; therefore, all the well-known construction enterprises have emphasized the company characteristics with quality. Six Sigma takes attention to the quality that customers concerned and also contribute to the growth of profitability and efficiency. By the way, the thinking of Six Sigma approach should also be applied in construction industry.
The precast concrete is one of the construction methods currently applied in various types of construction projects. Therefore, this study will use the Lean Six Sigma as research method to improve the productivity of precast production, attempt to explore the feasibility for construction management, and compare the affection before and after different management models. The results of the study may provide recommendations for the construction-related application, and expect to enhance quality and competitiveness of construction enterprises.
