Abstract
The purpose of this study was to discuss the effects of additives and operational factors in industrial calcium fluoride sludge and MSW incinerator bottom ash by melting process. The experiments were divided into four parts: (1) Optimum blending ratio of CaF2 to bottom ash and additives adding test: to evaluate the influence of pouring temperature by different replacement (1~10% by weight) and different additives as Na2CO3 and K2CO3. (2) To evaluate the physical properties of slag with different operating temperatures and times. (3) To evaluate the influence of hydration and pozzolanic reaction of water-cooled slag with different operating temperatures and times. (4) By using chemical compounds mixed artificial sludges according to the main portions of the on-site sludges, discuss the variance in pouring temperature and effects of additives on artificial and on-site sludges.
Based on the experimental results, when sludge mixed with ash under the ratio 4:6, it showed the lowest pouring temperature 1079℃ accompanied by the basicity value closed to 1. Besides, the pouring temperature was reduced 51℃ when 10% of Na2CO3 was added into the mixed sludge, and it was reduced 20℃ when 1% of K2CO3 was added into it but it would make anti-effect if more than 1% of K2CO3 was added into the mixed sludge. After melting the mixed sludge with optimum ratio by different operating temperatures (1100~1300℃) and operating times (10~50 min), it showed that both of the operating parameters could enhance the physical properties of slags like specific gravity, absorption, unit weight and void. Moreover, all the slags demonstrated pozzolanic activity (90~98% of SAI) by the analysis of MIP, DSC, NMR, XRD, SEM and thermal analysis. When compared the pouring temperature of the artificial sludge with the ratio 4:6 to the on-site sludge with the optimum ratio, it showed that the minor ingredients of on-site sludge (e.g. B, Mg, K) could reduce the pouring temperature substantially about 245℃ and they would make the irregularity of pouring temperature when Na2CO3/ K2CO3 was added into the on-site sludge.
