Abstract
Wide-angle optical polarization splitter,
operating at 1.55μm wavelength, with an
asymmetric Y-branch waveguide made by Zn
and Ni co-diffusion LiNbO3 is successfully
fabricated. For comparison, optical power
splitters based on symmetric Y-branch
operating at both 1.55μm and 0.6328μm are
also fabricated. The measured results show
high transmission efficiencies can be obtained.
In particular, the process-dependent guiding
property of Zn/Ni co-diffusion LiNbO3
waveguides and simplified coherently- coupled
waveguide segments are utilized for
polarization splitting and wide-angle bending,
respectively. Those are the first demonstration
of both wide-angle polarization and efficient
power splitting using Zn/Ni co-diffusion
LiNbO3 waveguide. Experimental results show
flexible control of waveguide polarization
properties is possible and significant reduction
of the device length for high packaging density
becomes feasible.
