Abstract
Oligodendrogliomas represent approximately 4% of all primary brain tumors, with peak incidence being in the fifth decade of life. Dura-based oligodendroglial tumors mimicking meningioma has never been reported before. In this report, we describe 2 cases of anaplastic oligodendrogliomas presenting with features of cystic meningiomas on imaging. The first case was a 44-year-old woman presented with headache, mouth deviation, and progressive weakness on the left side of her face and limbs. Imaging study revealed a dura-attached, cystic tumor that occupied the right frontal region. The second case was a 51-year-old man presented with syncope. MRI depicted a dura-attached mass with adjacent cystic changes in the right frontal region. Both patients underwent surgery for tumor excision and were discharged uneventfully. This report highlights the heterogeneity of oligodendrogliomas and their varying imaging features, and the significance to consider the tumor when making pre-operation differential diagnosis on imaging revealing extra-axial dura-based cystic brain lesions.
