Abstract
A three-dimensional wave pattern measurement system was set up by 6 wave probes to measure the three-dimensional wave pattern generated by ship model in towing tank. The wave patterns generated by two container ship models which are RD542_0 and Rd542_1 were measured by the wave pattern measurement system. The wave making coefficients of the ship models were also calculated by the measured wave height.
The measured wave patterns of the container ship models are good agreement with the calculated wave pattern except at the wave crest and trough. The amplitudes of the measured crest and trough are smaller than that of calculated. The wave-making coefficients of the RD542_0 and RD542_1 are almost the same. But the stern wave of the RD542_1 is smaller than that of the RD542_0. It shows that the wave-damping afterbody is workable.
The wave-making coefficient calculated by the measured wave height has 7% error when compared with that of prohaska’s method.
