Abstract
Petrochemical industry played a big part in the processing of Taiwan’s economy growing in past.The petrochemical industry is a complicated working system,there are lots of kinds of factory, the scope of production is large,there are many kinds of good and the propertues of them are complicated.therefore the source of wastewater and their character are different that affected the load of environment. After the demands of the environmental authorities in Taiwan,the controlling of materials in petrochemical wastewater must be an important topic for study . Phenols is the most important kind in aromatics hydrocarbon,the probability of showing in petrochemical product and raw materials is very big.There are usually existing phenols in effluence.Phenols listed as priority pollutants by USEPA are also listed as toxicant by epa of Taiwan. This study is to gather the datas of toxic materials and compounds in wastewater of raw material petrochemical industry, realizing the hazardous character of them,and choose phenols as an ambassador,mixing with sulfide which also plays a big part in Petrochemical industry wastewater ,use biofilter to treat the mixture .By changing different operator factor such as filter medium,depth of the bed,the load of organism,HRT,concertration of wastewater and pH,we can discuss the efficiency of reduction and the feasibility to put in use. This program is total three years.The study direction of the first year is above mentioned.The study direction is to discussand establish the kinetics of reduction phenols by using biofiler for second year,and to find engineering assessments and increase the practicality for the third year.The results can be treated as reference for controlling and reduction of wastewater emission from petrochemical industry.We hope that this study will be helpful for wastewater treatment of petrochemical industry in Taiwan,and decrease the load of hazardous toxicant in river and sea.
