Abstract
This paper analyzes the performance of the decision-driven optical phase-locked loop (DDOPLL) with loop delay and the presence of phase noise for the homodyne PSK receiver. The loop transfer function and the expression of the mean square phase tracking error are obtained. Under the condition of minimum mean square phase error, the relation between the loop natural frequency and the receiver bit error rate is presented. Therefore, for given phase noise, loop delay, and other system parameters DDOPLL with the optimal loop natural frequency and minimal required received power can be designed. Two examples are presented to illustrate the design procedure. © 1990, Walter de Gruyter
