Abstract
A novel compact dual-band loop-slot combination antenna for use in wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is proposed. The radiation mechanism is based on two resonant structure types, metal loop and slotline, combined into a single antenna to achieve WLAN 2.4 (2.4 ~ 2.484 GHz) and 5 GHz (5.15 ~ 5.85 GHz) operation. The proposed antenna is implemented in an ultra-thin tablet computer of dimensions 241×183×6.5 mm 3 , with a fully metallic cover on the bottom. The size of the proposed antenna is only 21×7.5×4.5 mm 3 with a metal bottom cover below and an LCD panel nearby. The reflection coefficient measured from the antenna demonstrates that the operation bandwidth is 140 and 1300 MHz using a -10-dB definition in WLAN 2.4 and 5-GHz bands, respectively. In addition, good radiation performance is also achieved.
